Best Practices and Do’s & Don’ts - Entry level 1

  • Try to conduct a personal interview with students to identify their needs and get some valuable personal information (background and level of education, job experience, interests, etc.)
  • Try to create groups with similar levels to favour progress
  • As a measure of motivation, try to show interest and respect for their culture and language of origin
  • Always avoid stereotypes or contents that are not linked to their reality
  • Try to create a relaxed, motivating and cooperative climate to get students to enjoy and to facilitate internal relationships
  • Prioritize communicative activities in pairs or in groups
  • Try to sequence the activities and give clear and brief instructions
  • Try using several short activities per class dealing with different aspects of language to favour concentration
